More than 17,000 ‘lifeline’ virtual prison visits held during pandemic

More than 17,000 “vital lifeline” virtual prison visits have been held since conferencing technology was made available at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

New figures from the Scottish Government show that 17,701 visits were made between June and the end of November.

The system was put in place after face-to-face visitation was suspended due to Covid-19, although family and friends are now able to see prisoners in person again.
