Our Thoughts and Commentary

The “Nureva App” is a web UI for the HDL 310 and HDL410 audio systems.

In the past, all Nureva HDL systems were configured over USB using a Windows app called Nureva Console. From first-hand experience, we can tell you that this approach worked just fine. However, the hard-wired Nureva Console approach has two disadvantages.

  • First, installers must download and install the Nureva Console app on their laptops. This may not be tragic, but it takes time and effort. Also, some enterprises do not allow users to install unvetted apps on their laptops.
  • Second, the HDL audio system has only one USB connection, so the audio system must be disconnected from the meeting room PC to be configured. As a result, installers can’t hear the impact of their changes in real-time. Imagine having to set the volume on your TV without hearing the sound. You get the idea.

The Nureva App addresses these issues.

To use the Nureva App, the integrator (or user) installs the HDL310 or HDL410 normally, opens a standard Internet browser, browses to the IP address of the HDL device, and enters the password found on the back of the device. At that point, the installer will arrive in the Nureva App and can configure the device as needed.

Using the Nureva App, installers can configure the HDL’s audio settings, enable and disable advanced features, and more. Customers can also decide whether to manage their HDL devices locally over their LAN/WAN or using the Nureva Cloud service.

The ability to manage the HDL310 and 410 devices from a browser is a nice feature, but the real benefit is that we can now configure these devices without disconnecting them from the meeting room PC. This may sound like a trivial change, but it means users can tweak the audio settings and hear the changes in real time. This small workflow adjustment will save time and improve the overall user experience.

Now, before you say anything, we agree that this is not a new concept. Devices have had web UIs for decades. But Nureva HDL devices did not. This is a bit of a catch-up, but a good one at that.

Finally, we should mention that the Nureva App does not replace the Nureva Console app. The Nureva Console app is still used to configure legacy HDL devices and for remote management of installed HDL devices. However, the Nureva App is the preferred approach for initially configuring HDL310 and HDL410 devices.
