Topic Summary

At the ISE 2025 event in Barcelona, Shure unveiled its new IntelliMix Room Kits, complete Microsoft Teams Room systems designed for Windows environments. These systems deliver premium audio and video capabilities essential for AI-driven tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot, ensuring accurate transcriptions and clear communication for meeting participants.

The portfolio includes four distinct room kits tailored to different space requirements, ranging from small rooms to large, reconfigurable spaces up to 33 x 18 feet. Each kit incorporates an IntelliMix Foundation Compute unit, touch panel, MXA902 Ceiling Array Microphone and Loudspeaker components, and appropriate Huddly camera configurations.

These kits feature Zero Touch Provisioning technology, allowing automatic configuration of all components including audio, video, touch panel, and compute devices. The IntelliMix Room software comes pre-installed with advanced DSP capabilities, while AI-powered Huddly cameras provide automatic participant framing and optimized video experiences.

Comprehensive remote management capabilities enable IT teams to monitor and control systems through Teams Admin Center, ShureCloud, and enterprise IT platforms. The systems include standard warranty coverage, with an optional three-year extension available through channel partners for total coverage of up to five years.

Market availability is scheduled for Spring 2025, with initial demonstrations planned for ISE 2025 in Barcelona. The systems are currently undergoing Microsoft Teams certification processes to ensure full compatibility and integration.

Our Thoughts and Commentary

Shure is a (if not THE) premiere player in the professional audio world, offering what it refers to as “Studio Sound for Every Meeting.” I absolutely agree with the “studio sound” portion of that tagline. However, truth be told, Shure has struggled to find its way into “every meeting.”

Traditionally, Shure has had a limited presence in non-integrated small and medium rooms. The reason? Because Shure has always focused on spaces where premiere audio performance is a necessity, not a luxury. As a result, Shure has been all but absent in the simple AV spaces that make up most of the meeting room market (by volume).

In 2020, Shure acquired Stem Audio, an innovative company offering cost-effective modular audio solutions. This acquisition seemed like a great way for Shure to target a wider range of customers and room sizes, but in the end, the results were less than stellar.

Now, four years later, at the ISE 2025 show, Shure announced the IntelliMix Room Kits – a portfolio of Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) bundles for small to large meeting spaces.

Notable Features of the IntelliMix Room Kits

#1 – Shure Audio
The jewel of these offerings is clearly the fact that “Shure-grade” audio is baked into each system. For example, the IntelliMix Room Kit 30 shown below includes a Shure MXA902 Ceiling Mic + Speaker Array and an external compute appliance running the Shure IntelliMix Room DSP software (as well as a Huddly IQ camera and a Shure IntelliMix Touch Panel).

While we have yet to test these solutions, we have little doubt that the audio experience will live up to Shure’s stellar reputation.

#2 = Compute with On-Board DSP
The IntelliMix Room Kits include an external Windows-based compute appliance pre-loaded with Shure’s software-based DSP. As far as we know, this is the first MTR compute device on the market that includes an onboard DSP.

#3 = Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP)
The second notable feature of the IntelliMix Room Kits is Zero Touch Provisioning which auto-configures the audio, video, touch panel, and Windows-based compute device right out of the box. This cuts the time, cost, and expertise required to configure these MTR systems.

The Flip Side of the Coin

So … what’s not to like?

#1 = Where’s the Bar?
First, there is no video bar version of the IntelliMix Room Kit. To be fair, the meeting room video bar market is extremely crowded. (See the Recon Research Solution Finder for Video Bars for information on more than 50 meeting room video bars.) However, there’s a reason why so many vendors offer video bars — because video bars make sense in many meeting rooms.

Video bars are easy to buy, easy to install, and offer a solid meeting experience, especially in small and medium spaces. Even a “me-too” video bar (or an OEM of another vendor’s video bar) with basic features and an acceptable price point would have given Shure access to more meeting spaces.

#2 = Ceiling Mics Only
Second, each IntelliMix Room Kit includes at least one MXA902 Ceiling Mic + Speaker. On the one hand, this all but guarantees exceptional microphone capture and sound reinforcement in the room. However:

  • The MXA902 ceiling array alone sells for approximately US $4,000, which is more than many competing complete small and medium room solutions.
  • The MXA902 is ceiling mounted, which likely requires facilities support for the physical installation
  • The MXA902 requires a PoE network port, requiring IT support for the LAN drop.
But most of all, although we are BIG fans of Shure’s ceiling arrays, the MXA902 is overkill for most small and medium spaces. Given Shure’s strong market position in wired and wireless table mics, we’re puzzled by its decision to offer only a ceiling array within these bundles.

#3 – An Obvious Missed Opportunity
Shure is an audio powerhouse and wants to sell its audio technology into more meeting rooms. So why not offer the Shure IntelliMix compute appliance pre-loaded with Shure’s software DSP separately?

Selling just the compute appliance would open the door for Shure to power the audio (and MTR) experience in any meeting room with a USB-capable video bar or AV components (webcam, speakerphone, etc.).

We asked about this at ISE 2025, and the answer we were told on the booth was, “Sorry, but the compute is not available separately.” Fortunately, this is relatively easy to fix.

Closing Thoughts

We’re pleased to see Shure jump into the Microsoft Teams Rooms market, and we think the IntelliMix Room Kits are well suited for medium and even some of the smaller large spaces with audio challenges. [Larger spaces may require PTZ cameras which are not currently available within these kits.]

Furthermore, we’re eager to test out the Zero Touch Provisioning process for ourselves.

However, lacking a video bar variant and considering the anticipated high cost of these bundles, we question whether Shure can make any real headway in the small and medium-room market with these IntelliMix Room Kit solutions.

In this case, we’d be happy for Shure to prove us wrong.
Final Note
The real question is what does Shure expect from the IntelliMix Room Kits.

If Shure expects to dominate the video meeting room market with the IntelliMix Room Kits, the headwinds cited above will make that difficult.

On the other hand, if Shure’s goal is to offer a Shure-branded MTR option for medium and large spaces, these kits might just do the trick.

Either way, it’s great to see Shure vying for a seat at the table in more meeting rooms.
