Yes – terminology matters.
In fact, the battlefield is littered with the remains of wonderful terms that have been exploited, mis-used, and abused by industry participants (vendors, channel partners, end-user customers, and even analysts).
Here are a few examples:
- Telepresence – initially defined (by the analysts at RR more than 15 years ago) as a virtual meeting experience that closely replicates an in-person experience, telepresence soon became an industry buzzword used to highlight almost any video experience. Even some streaming vendors offering a one-way-only experience tagged their solutions as telepresence offerings.
