Background Information

Poly (NYSE: POLY) is the result of the 2019 re-branding of Plantronics after it acquired Polycom in 2018.  The company conducts business under the name Poly, but its legal name is Plantronics, Inc.

Poly’s offerings include professional headsets (the company divested its consumer headset business a few years ago), video conferencing solutions, voice solutions (mainly IP phones), and a range of services.

The company sells its offerings via a network of distributors, channel partners and e-tailers.  The company also sells some products directly to customers on its website.

The company has more than 6,000 employees working out of ~ 75 global offices.

While not its primary source of revenue today, the company is perhaps best known for its triangular-shaped conference phones (a.k.a. the Polycom starfish) found in millions of meeting rooms around the world.

The company is also proud that in 1969, NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin used Plantronics headsets when they went to the moon.

According to the company, 100% of Fortune 500 companies rely on Poly products and services.

On March 28, 2022, HP, Inc (NYSE: HPA) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Poly for a total enterprise value of $3.3 billion.  This deal is expected to close by the end of CY2022.  (See our Video Note on this pending transaction).
